化學物品的危險性不容小覷，一旦爆炸，有如引爆黃色炸藥（TNT）。災情與天津化工大爆炸相若的，台灣應該就數高雄氣爆，這起丙烯外洩造成的災難，波及範圍達6公里；有4.4公里市區重要幹道被炸陷，沿路民宅毀損嚴重，更造成32死321傷，其中有7名打火兄弟罹難。被形容有如「遭到飛彈轟炸」，重創高雄城市運作長達3個多月，催生高雄市府整治地下管線的決心，並制定地方性的管理條例。
2013年，美國德州則發生化肥廠爆炸事故，當時爆炸威力夷平周圍五條街，造成15人死亡，逾160人受傷，同樣有數名消防員失蹤。據媒體指稱，當時出現直徑約30公尺的大火球，被轟上雲霄的炸裂物如雨般從天散落，造成80幢房屋損毀。而最近的八仙樂園粉塵爆炸案，又是特殊一例，雖無造成硬體嚴重毀損，但超過500人死傷，卻寫下台灣事故災難中，燒燙傷最多人數的紀錄。此次事件造成各地不少類似活動受到影響，甚至停辦，也引發全球對「粉塵」使用安全問題重視。
化學災難一件比一件驚人，執政者不光要追究肇事者責任，全力安置，搶救傷患外，更要防範化學物質擴散對環境的汙染。尤其不要忘了安撫、重建無辜受災民眾的心靈，更要緊的是，如何把災難轉化成教訓，避免同樣事故重演，才是事故之後，政府更大的挑戰。
